Time To Take The Tree Down

Millions of people in Spanish speaking countries celebrate Three Kings Day today. There are parties and parades and gifts. It's as big a celebration as Christmas Day. It's the official end to the Christmas season, and the beginning of Carnival which culminates with Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday).

When do you take down the Christmas decorations? I leave mine up until today which is Epiphany, or Three Kings Day, or Twelfth Night. You can read more about Twelfth Night HERE

This crazy family has 63 Christmas trees in there home, and they are not the Obamas!
You can read about them HERE

I love Christmas decorating, but this is just way too much. Today this family takes all of this down. It takes them awhile to get it all put away.

Every room in the house has a tree or six.

I think they should perhaps think about redecorating the house instead of spending all the time it takes to put up 63 trees, and then take them all down again.

The clutter in this house is amazing.

Here in New Orleans many folks leave their Christmas tree up, and just change out the ornaments to a Carnival theme. For me, the tree comes down right after tonight.

    Great story though!
My tree was down the day after x-mas but I still have a smaller one it will get taken down when I get back from galavanting around NYC again.

  4. Tree? What tree?
That thing is LONG gone!! LOL I too usually did keep it up until Three Kings Day (highly celebrated down here in FL), but I think since I put it up earlier this year, I was itchin' to take it DOWN!

All the fluff and extras are packed back up into the attic until next year... but I do still have 'some' trays of ornaments to deal with in the garage... :-)

Blessings for a HAPPY NEW Year!

  5. The tree comes down before the New Year! But then again, I can't say much on this topic considering I didn't put one up this year! Bah-humbug!

  6. I visited Puerto Rico in December one year for work (not design related at the time) and just loved how they put Christmas trees EVERYWHERE in the company office. It was an overstuffed office to start with and then there were about 10 trees in there. All over the San Juan there were lights on everything. Loved it.

Those people are out of their tree!
Haven't bothered myself for the last few years, although I do like them.

  8. I've only had a tree once - which is kinda sad. But I can't decide between a fake tree or a real tree...and end up not getting any tree! Especially since I live in an apartment, I have no place to store a fake tree when not in use. But I never thought of decorating the tree for different holidays, like Mardi Gras, before. I think that's something to consider for people with very small spaces like me!

  15. I love your Mardi Gras tree. I also love to have more than one tree. I have a bayleaf tree in my kitchen with just sparkles on the ends of the leaves and then one small one on my buffet, and then a big one, this is the only one with lights. I'm Polish and we celebrate The Feast of the Three Kings as well, a big meal, much like the one we had on Christmas Eve, and a lot of carolling and fun. We always had friends who were Ukrainian and this was their Christmas Eve, so it was a repeat performance for us as kids and we loved it. And then the tree comes down.

  16. 63 is just crazy. They have to keep them up. I must go back and read it. I take mine down if time permits right after new years. So the tree is down but the outside lights are still up. Will get to those when I can.

  17. My mum always took our tree down on January 6 because it was twelfth night. I am not a big fan of Christmas trees; I get tired of them quickly and usually insist on ours coming down New Year's day. In my community the volunteer fire fighters chip trees with a donation for Muscular Dystrophy and they usually do it on the Saturday after New Year's. That is always a good motivator for getting the tree out of the house.

  18. Just found your blog, I followed over from Joni's blog, and I'm loving it. We keep our tree up until the Epiphany, too. This year that was, of course, on a Wednesday so it didn't get taken down til this past Sunday. I loved enjoying all the lights for all those weeks. I'm disabled and homebound so it really helped to add some brightness to my life.

Thanks for sharing. I'll definitely be back soon.

    Blessings,

    Teresa <><
