Memorial Day

Thanks to all who serve in the armed forces.

Have you ever tried to explain this holiday? Like why on a day dedicated to remembering people who died in the service of the country has become the unofficial first day of Summer, that we celebrate with shopping, or picnics and barbeque's, or going to the beach, or on camping trips.

On another subject, has anyone seen Sex And The City 2? Yes or no?

  1. Ah Carrie and fleet week. I have seen the movie and will be reporting on the decor tomorrow.

As for me stop by and read my post today at the bottom of the post is a link for how we celebrate this holiday~ not your average picnic.

  2. I saw it yesterday. I loved the series. Did not like the first movie that much. I liked this one more. I can see why it got such bad reviews...and yet I liked it. It's cheesy, bawdy, in poor taste...but you just care about the characters and I liked the story line....even though it was a forced with that trip to Abi Dabi.

I had not planned on seeing it but got a free pass....and turns out I am glad I did. If only to see Carrie and Big's apartment.

  3. You do make a great point about our general Memorial Day activities...hmmm. I haven't seen the movie yet...maybe next weekend when the crowds have died down some.

  4. In Canada our Remembrance day is a very somber affair. Everything is closed. It is on Nov. 11th. Many people go to town squares to pay their respect. We have silence at 11am.

Haven't seen STC2 yet...but I know I will LOVE IT regardless! Just pure fun! (it was never based on a literary novel)

    Have a wonderful week.

  5. Hey Val!!

Yes - it is a challenging holiday to explain. As for the shops being open: I sure do agree - let GO of the greed, be closed today, and therefore have a choice on how to recognize or celebrate the day... even if it is with the first grill session of the summer season...

As for SATC2 (HUGE HUGE fan of Big, Sex, and SJP) - but since reviews have been poor, I'm a little leery to go see. Fab set pics will be swarming the web soon enough... and I don't know if I want a 'bad' image of the series to be the last.

GREAT meeting you and Alberto last night at the Tango Festival on the beach!! enJOY the rest of your stay... =)

    Love,
    Lynda

  6. I pray for the day when we celebrate Memorial Day as the time when with used to support the corporate industrial military establishment getting filthy rich by bringing misery to other countries with the lives of our young and brave.
Not a single American life is worth loosing to support the greed and predatory practices of war profiteers.

  7. Someone wrote our local paper reminding us not to say happy memorial day or celebrate, that it is a solemn day. Then he used the word celebrate at the end of the letter. Sort of exemplifies our confusion about it as a society.
i don't know about shopping, but gathering with family and friends seems like a good thing. Especially if you remember loved ones who have died in service.
I thought about our soldiers, past and present, as I planted flowers in the park in front of the memorials on Sunday.

  8. I also did a post on this. I agree it is nice to be with friends and family on a day like this - but I hope it's in a grateful way both to be able to be with those people and thankful to those who have died fighting for the lives we have.

As for SATC2 I saw it and I really liked it. I think I'm one of the few that liked the first more, but I loved them both. Lets be honest, it might be a little corny or unreal and too extravagant but that is the point. The fashion and decor in it are absolutely amazing!
