The Ultimate Modern Wish Book

Was one of your Christmas rituals of the past getting the Sears or Montgomery Ward Christmas catalog in the mail, and pouring over it for weeks? Way long before the internet, and all the mail order catalogs that have been clogging up mail boxes since the 1990's, the Sears Christmas catalog was known to many a child as "The Wish Book". In fact Sears started calling it that in the last years it was published. eBay does a brisk business in old Wish Books, selling for around $30.!

Hours were spent pouring over the expanded toy section, corners of pages folded over, items circled and shown to mom and dad, and letters written to Santa pointing him to page numbers in the catalog.

Nowadays, every blogger and his/her mother has a gift guide to post. We are a nation of savvy shoppers, clicking away on the computer, or guerrilla fighting for merchandise in brick and mortar stores. We love to shop, and it is so easy to get anything from anywhere anytime.

I still love looking at catalogs that come in the mail. But nothing has every rivaled the Wish Book of my childhood.

Emily Henderson, the talented sweetie pie, stylist, blogger and TV host has put together a nifty online holiday catalog, She has gathered together a bevy of younger bloggers, who chime in. But mainly it's Emily sharing her sources. You will see many things she uses on her TV show (HGTV Secrets From a Stylist). It's nearly 300 pages!!! And it is organized very well. My only lament is that it didn't come in the old fashion mail box.

So hunker down and wish away:  The Holiday Guide by Emily Henderson

  6. That sure brings back memories. I loved when the Sears and when the Montgomery Wards Christmas catalogs arrived. I marked what I liked, and by some miracle, Santa Claus delivered. Go figure......
